In brief
Lucas Industries was based in what is now the Newtown area of Birmingham. They were at this site from approximately 1872 until 1996. The monument is placed at the site of what was the Tom Bowling Lamp Factory, which was in Little King Street. By the 1990s Lucas Industries was in a decline in the area. This monument was made out of a slate slab in 1994. On a 120cm diameter circle of slate, and block paving circle of 300cm diameter. After Lucas left in 1996, the works were all demolished, and replaced by housing and parks. The parkland close to the monument is Great Kings Street Park (or New John Street Park).
